Mobilizing the Private Sector
UVA was started in the private sector by people who could no longer tolerate the way our society treats people experiencing homelessness.
We knew something had to be done in the face of this humanitarian crisis, but we were told that this problem was too difficult to solve. We couldn’t find anyone who had a comprehensive plan, so we created our own.
After a closer look at the problem, we identified a clear strategy — bring together a broad set of leading local organizations, offering credible leadership, to jointly develop a comprehensive solution in partnership with homelessness providers, the public sector, and city residences.

UVA is a Community
It is a movement — a movement of people who believe that homelessness can be solved, and that communities already have the land and expertise to solve it. It is a movement of people who believe that we have a shared obligation to help our fellow citizens and to save our cities. We can’t sit back and wait for someone else to solve it — we all have to step up now.
We see a future where every city in our country has the infrastructure, coordination, and effective systems in place to successfully support our fellow citizens when they find themselves experiencing homelessness. That is why we started UVA and that is why we hope you will join us.
